I can’t imagine anything better than this one
If you want to cruise the SE Alaska Inside Passage with just one reference book, I can’t imagine anything better than this one. It provides a concise, well-written review of geography, history, economy, vegetation, and wildlife. It also provides a great visitor guide for each of the most commonly visited towns and sites along the Passage. The book served us well – both as a pre-trip read and as a reference along the way.

It’s a Map.
The map of Alaska is well detailed and provides a good description of the roadway paths.

useful for many types of travelers
this book, when I compare with the Fodor’s book I purchased, is way more useful. It has information for a number of types of travelers, and in particular gives great information about the outdoors activities (rather than Fodor’s approach to the urban experience),

Note the Publication Date
This book was published in 2008- you might want to look for a more recent guide to southeast Alaska.

Alaska Inside Passage
This is an excellent guide to help you see what you need to see and do in Alaska. I like to get several different books and compare them. Each book talks about a different way to do the trips and the best way to do it.

Accurate and concise description of the Inside Passage
I found this book to be well researched, factual and descriptive. I work as a naturalist working on an expedition ship cruising the Inside Passage. The charts and maps add to the text. The author presents a realistic image as to what to expect on a cruise of this extraordinary landscape.

Very helpful
I am really enjoying this book as we plan for our own cruise to the Inland Passage. My only complaints are that the length of time involved in some of the shore excursions are not listed (important when you’re on a non-cruise arranged excursion. You only have a limited time in a port before the ship leaves without you!) and there is absolutely no mention of accessibility issues. For more information on accessibility, I recommend you check first with your cruise line and also look at the Alaska cruise sections on spintheglobe.net and wheelchairtraveling.com, accessiblejourneys.com or newmobility.com There are also some entries on accessibility at sites such as tripadvisor.com

Good Reference
Able to look up areas, towns, and general sights you might be able to view along the inside passages. Also found tips on several defined areas useful.
