Great value radio
I like this radio quite a bit . Better antenna selection than most others out of the packages. Ir feels solid and well built . Screen is nice and easy to read. All in all , great radio for the price.

Nice little Baofeng kit
Baofeng radios get a lot of negative press by the seasoned hams out there and if I were seriously into the hobby, I’d be able to get on board with that. But I’m just using this radio as a hobbiest/newbie so for what I want to do, it’s a great intro radio. This kit contains a lot of extras that my previous Baofengs didn’t include – dual antennas, a USB-C chargeable battery, and a microphone – pretty much everything you need to get started. The only thing missing is a cable to connect to your computer so you can use CHIRP to program it.Since I mostly use this 5RH Pro to listen to local fire frequencies and also use it for GMRS transmissions around the yard, it’s been working great for me. The color display is a nice touch and I’ve found it easy enough to read indoors and outdoors (as long as it’s not in super bright sunlight).Overall, for a hobbiest or beginner just looking to get their ears wet with radios, you can’t go too wrong for the price with this radio.

It’s Alright
I’ve been looking at these for a while now and decided to finally snag one. Now that I have it, I honestly don’t know what I’ll use this for. I read that you could use this as a emergency operations scanner to pick up law enforcement and fire department traffic but it’s useless for that in my area since all of our LEO and Emergency Responders have switched off of 400 frequencies to higher frequencies that this doesn’t appear to have access to. I tried listening to local ham radio chatter but it didn’t pick up anything. The radio station function works fine, but again, I have radios that do that better. I will keep this handy and charged in the event of grid failure, but other than that, I don’t see the point. It doesn’t have a fixed antenna so it can’t be licensed for amateur radio. I found it fairly easy to access the menus and program a few channels but doing that for more than a few channels will be cumbersome without the usage of CHIRP. Overall, not what I was hoping but works for what it is. If you specifically want a Baofeng UM-5R or have fallen for the ads stating that this will be outlawed, go for it as it comes with a decent amount of accessories. If you’re looking for something that will also pick up police frequencies or amateur radio, keep looking.

Works great and I love operating 1.25 meter band for simplex
We don’t have any 220MHz repeaters in town, I use the band for simplex with a friend. It works well on all bands. This includes a good collection of accessories. I prefer using a hand mic rather than the ear piece.The extra power comes in handy, but mostly I don’t need it around here.

Almost Perfect…
Of all the various radios of this type, this one is my new favorite. It is not overly complex and has many many functions, including GPS which does seem to work. The dual display is nice and the fact it can display the frequency and channel name at the same time is perfect. The only reason I cannot give it 5 stars is that it is NOT supported by CHIRP like all the other radios I have. If it was supported by CHIRP then I could easily copy channel configurations from other radios to this one but alas, I cannot. I am stuck inputting each channel individually which is error prone and a real PITA. So it gets 4 stars. The build quality seems very good.So Baofeng.. Why so many many models all doing almost the same thing and many looking identical to each other when they are not? I guess some people just like to collect them.

Great handheld radio
Love this radio. It has all the features you’d expect in a handheld radio and they all work very well. I don’t have all the fancy equipment to test if it’s really putting out what they advertise so I’ll leave that to other reviewers, but I can tell you this has met all my expectations as far as range so far. The color screen looks amazing and it comes with all the accessories you need, including some extras like different antennas. The speaker also sounds very good.

Everything is monitorable
OMG, so many channels and so many applications!!Just spent the morning listening to the departure channel of my local international airport.The instructions will take about two days to go through as there is so much to this little unit. Love this!

Not ready for prime time
I’ve given this radio three stars on faith that Bofeng will work out the kinks and make the product delivered live up to its promise. The promise is exciting. A good performing radio with a very good feature. We have had two of these radios to test. The first took the better part of day to get operating. At that time CHIRP programming was not available and CPS had to be used. Having 600 channels is kind of a waste if you have to manually input every one of them. However, after a lot of fiddling my colleague got that one to work.The second is on my desk now. Since the first round CHIRP has added programming for this model. Unfortunately, this radio would not respond to CHIRP or the dedicated version of CPS posted on Miklor.Right now, this radio is not worth the trouble. There are other radios that don’t cost that much with the same feature set and none of the problems. I suspect Baofeng will get this cleared up eventually and when they do I will edit these reviews accordingly.
