ACT 101 –
5 Stars, with reservations, because of Bluetooth programming
I give this unit 5 Stars with reservations, because the Bluetooth Programming App for Android phones is full of bugs. This is the second UV32 I’ve acquired with my own $$. Not a Vine “gift”. The unit was brand new, box in the factory green plastic wrap. It came with the VFO “unlocked”, and both transmits & receives 136 – 174 and 400 – 520 mhz. I’ve read that it also covers amateur and LMR in the 1.25m/219 – 260 mhz band, but I don’t have a “220” antenna so I can’t confirm. It does operate well on 2m, MURS (151 & 154 mhz), VHF Marine (156/157 mhz), and the same for 70cm, and GMRS/FRS (462/467 mhz. Would seemingly work well on VHF Hi and UHF LMR as well. It does receive VHF AM civil aviation, but it’s not very sensitive, as even when I connected to an outside antenna, reception was “rough”. But that’s something else that I don’t need. It also has a dedicated “bank” for the 7 U.S. NOAA, and 3 Canadian Weather channels. Reception of those is very good. I can pick 3 with ease. Also, it “saves” the channel you select. It doesn’t automatically revert to “NOAA channel 1” when you turn it off & back on. That’s a plus. The American GPS is accurate, and locks on fast, even indoors. Broadcast FM is good, but unless one can do it via “Chirp” there’s no way to store any of those to a memory. It will scan for stations like the FM in most cars. I don’t have any bench electronics, so I couldn’t get actual readings of output power, but I was able to interrogate repeaters on VHF & UHF with this unit on High power 10 watts (advertised) that I couldn’t with a standard 5 watt (advertised) portable. The transmit audio and signal was reported as very good. Received audio the same. Just remember that the speaker is facing away from you.It came (as did the first one), with only One memory bank “open”. To be able to get the other 9 banks you’ll need “Chirp”, or Baofeng needs to de-bug the Bluetooth programming software. It’s BAD… It temporarily “bricked” the first unit. But to be honest, memory banks & 1000 memory channels are a novelty. I’ve used portable radios in the public safety, military, and amateur services and was fine without those. The manual FPP (Front Panel Programming) is a little bit of a learning curve, but once you get a few frequencies programmed by hand, it’s second nature. It has two independent VFO capability when set to Dual receive. So you have the option of “Memory/Memory”, “Memory/VFO”, or “VFO/VFO”.The “carrying case” is a disappointment. Baofeng should incorporate an actual belt clip, or supply a proper & secure case for it. This unit is a doppelganger of the Motorola APX series but not close enough to fit in a Motorola carrier. But one of the innumerable cases available on line will work. It would have been nice if the security screw for the battery was “captured”, e.g. a half moon clip to keep it from falling out/getting lost. The Baofeng supplied screwdriver is barely usable… it’s too small. However, if you have or able to acquire an old Smith & Wesson flat side sight screwdriver, or a military P38 can opener, either of those work fine. It’s a comfortable unit to hold & use. Just the right size, not too small like many radios being offered. It’s not perfect, and I think the price could be $10-15 less, but it IS far and away better than brand’s copies of the APX. The only real negative is the Buggy Bluetooth programming app, and I suggest avoiding it. I have used Bluetooth programming apps by other brands, and they worked fine.

Good radio just 1 noted issue
Basically a very good radio except one noted issue. The PTT and speaker mic plug audio quality to when attaching a speaker mic is not the best I’ve bought multiple units and the same problem exists in all of them. Seems to be a manufacturing issue, just bear that in mind. Other wise radio is a good radio.UPDATED REVIEW SEPTEMBER 8, 2025I HAVE NOT HAD THIS RADIO MORE THAN 6 MONTHS THE SPEAKER NO LONGER WORKS AND HAS BLOWN OUT COMPLETELY THE SPEAKER MIC ISSUE REMAINS THE SAME AUDIO IS LOW TRANSMIT IS BAD. THE RADIO WILL TRANSMIT BUT THAT’S ABOUT ALL IT DOES NOW THE MAIN SPEAKER ON THE HANDSET IS BLOWN OUT IT DOES NOT WORK IF YOU TURN IT OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AFTER A LITTLE WHILE THE SPEAKER WILL COME BACK ON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND THEN BLOW OUT AGAIN. OUT OF THE THREE RADIOS THAT I BOUGHT TWO HAVE NOW FUNCTIONED IN THIS FASHION AND ONLY ONE REMAINS I’M EXPECTING THAT ONE TO FAIL ALSO.CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER ON THEIR WEBSITE AS PROVEN TO BE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE DUE TO LACK OF COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE BARRIERS AND AMAZON HERE IS EITHER UNWILLING OR UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.I’M SAD TO SAY THAT I HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE NOW TO BE AWARE OF BUYING BEAUFANG PRODUCTS BEFORE BOYFRIEND USED TO BE A GOOD DECENT AND CHEAP RESOURCE FOR AMATEUR RADIOS I HAVE MY FIRST GENERATION UV-5R AND UV82 AND THEY STILL WORK PERFECTLY TO THIS DAY THESE NEWER RADIOS ARE NOW COMING OUT LIKE CRAP. AGAIN I HAVEN’T EVEN HAD THIS RADIO FOR MORE THAN 6 MONTHS BUYER BEWARE.

Nice radio and a solid value for the price.
A great design. Having the battery charge pads on the front of the radio eliminates that shock we often get on transmit when our hand touches the charge points on other Chinese radios. The dislay is readable, although the font is rather old fashioned. Dual watch works seamlessly. Power on my sample was 9.2 watts VHF and 8,6 watts on UHF, perfectly acceptable. Spurious emissions on VHF showed a first harmonic just under -40dB down from the fundamental, so it’s right on the wire but acceptable. Love the Motorola-style holster option which was an extra $12 well spent… No more belt clips slipping off the belt. TX signal reports are excellent, and RX audio is loud and crystal clear. USB charging is a huge plus. The drawbacks. No Chirp support as of 9/16/2025. Baofeng CPS is mediocre at best and has no option for radio settings. The PTT button is “mushy” with a hair trigger. The GPS function is nowhere near as complete as the 5RM Plus GPS sibling, although it quickly locks onto satellites even indoors. All in all, a perfectly fine radio with a few gotchas. But the design and form factor make up for the flaws if Baofeng will address the PTT issue and improve their CPS. And Chirp support is in the works. I have no regrets. Well worth the money.

Great value! Easy to set up and use
Sturdy and really easy to use. I don’t expect it to last an exceptionally long time for the price which is fine i suppose. But I’m definitely going to test its durability at work!
