Base and cable are high quality, antenna whip may not be optimal for 1090.
After a lot of testing, i found by combining the supplied screw in base and cable with my existing antenna whip (see image – screws on perfectly) I do get measurable increases in both planes detected and distances – see graphs.What is a little confusing is i cant hit this same level of performance with the antenna whip they supplied which is meant to be 6dBi yet my old whip is quoted at only 2.5dBi. I read some reviewers found the antenna length isn’t tuned optimally for 1090Mhz, so this may confirm that theory.I’m taking my hybrid combination as a win.

Avoid!
Horrible antenna. Swapped out a smaller ADS-B antenna thinking this would work better, and instantly see less than 10% of what the “free” antenna picks up. Going back to the Antenna that came with the USB receiver now.

Cut it to a 1/4 wave antenna for ADS-B reception
At it current length the max range topped off at 40 miles. When cutting the antenna at 69mm, which is 1/4 of the wave length my range more than tripled to 135 mile range. I use it strictly for ADS-B aircraft traffic only.

It’s a failure
Fails to work correctly on 1090 mhz my ADS suffered. Not a good choice.

Magnet is too week
The antenna reception is good but the magnet is too week for a mobile application. At first I was happy with the antenna driving around town but as soon as I was on the highway (70 MPH) it flew off of my roof. I have another magnetic antenna on my truck for AIS data and the only thing that has nocked it off was tree limbs.

Despite nominal performance of this antenna is shown as “6dBi”, actual performance of this definitely less than the “NooElec ADS-B Discovery 5dBi”, .Since my coverage area was shurinked under 1/2 from NooElec’s, I have ceased using this.

I purchased this antenna to go with the RadarBox receiver. This antenna plugged into the receiver and within seconds my Radar Pi started tracking Aircraft in my area. I have my Antenna in ann office window on the ground floor with next to no mountains or valley to interfere with the radio signals. The higher you are able to mount this antenna the greater coverage you will receive.This antenna works great for my application as a plug and play setup allowing my Radar Pi to show aircraft without needing to solder my own components. Comparing my Radar Pi aircraft signatures using this antenna to any online Radar tracking website, Im getting the same Aircraft Data within roughly 150km radius of my location. Keep in mind with an radio frequency this is subjective to interference and ground obstructions, if you live in a Valley or mountainous region you may have limited range.

Not tuned for 978/1090MHz at all. Range of ads-b receiver now only 30nm but at the top of a roof, previous telescopic antenna was sitting behind a door at half the elevation with 150nm reception range. DO NOT BUY. Make your own.
