Alert alert this is a great buy
So it’s the middle of the night. And all of a sudden smoke alarms are going off. Why do these things go off in the middle of the night I just don’t understand? Anyways so then you take it apart and you look it up online real quick the next morning because it was 3:00 in the morning when it happened, and then you find this great replacement. Haven’t had to tweak it since I put it in and it was an easy install.

Works Well, But a Bit Too Sensitive
This alarm definitely does its job — maybe a little too well! It’s very sensitive, going off even with a small amount of smoke from regular kitchen cooking. On the plus side, the 10-year sealed battery and slim design are great features, and it’s easy to install. If you’re placing it near a kitchen, just be prepared for a few extra alarms. Otherwise, it’s a reliable and high-quality smoke detector for home safety.

Any fire alarm is better than nothing. But don’t get this one.
This is the 3rd one of these units I have had with the “10 year” sealed battery and none of them have made it even a full year. They also claim “no low battery chirps” but when they start to die, they just go off with 3 sets of 3 full blast alarms (same as an actual fire alarm) every hour. Without fail, this always happens in the middle of the night, and the only way to disable the low battery alarm is to permanently deactivate the unit with a screwdriver by snapping a plastic tab which is loads of fun to do when you are half asleep in the dark on a ladder and your adrenaline is pumping full blast because you thought the house was on fire. And one other major annoyance, is that with every revision of this product, (even with the same model number) the 3 units I have purchased all had different mounting bracket screw patterns, so you can’t even re-use the same mounting ring if you decide to get a replacement. The other alarms I have in the house are the older models with replaceable batteries and they usually go a couple of years before the batteries need swapped out. I won’t be purchasing any more of these models.

Alarm malfunctioned after a year, First Alert is sending replacements
I’ve had these smoke detectors in my home for about a year now, and two of them started to malfunction. They started alarming (NOT chirping), in the middle of the night. One of them alarmed a few times and stopped after I took it down. The other alarmed every couple of hours until I took it down. The following night, it started to alarm again, but it was constant. I tried to silence, reset, and clean the detector, nothing would turn it off so I eventually deactivated it before I went insane.I called First Alert’s product support to let them know what was happening, and they are sending new units to my house. I am incredibly satisfied with their customer service, but wish I didn’t have to deal with the malfunctioning alarms in the first place.

Super easy to get on and off.
It definitely works well as a smoke detector. It was easy to install the base to the wall, as well as inserting the actual smoke detector onto the base. Our previous smoke detector was almost impossible to get back onto the base after silencing it and it was super annoying so we were really happy with this one. It’s definitely loud which is what you want to smoke detector. I also appreciated the sticker on the side that had space for you to write the date that you installed it, and the date that you should uninstall it.

Item arrived in shrink-wrap instead of the factory clamshell, I contacted the MFG who advised that these are not sold in shrink-wrap, even when purchased in bulk. I would not trust my safety or life with something like this. Be cautious.

The support ring is of different size than my old detector with 9v battery. Had to make a new hole for attaching. Very simple.
