Heavy little radio.
For this radio I will start with the cons, as there are only one,Cons:First radio I received was junk. No reception, not programmable, and Rad-tel support was no help. Amazon exchange to the rescue!Pros,Radio has a long battery life, But like all electronic items, it comes with about a half charge. It has USB-C charging, and the supplied cable seems to be of decent quality.Audio on the radio is clear and well defined, until just before maximum volume. The size is similar to the UV-k5 or the UV-5r although it is thicker and has quite a bit more weight.Programming is easy, It was directly compatible with CHIRP and uses a standard ken-wood 2 pin connector. The same as Baofeng, Quansheng, orTtidradio. This radio has a programmable 2nd PTT button, though I had to program it in chirp. As when the menu programming, kept setting off the alarm.I dont have a power meter to connect, (I have plans to get one). So I cannot speak to the power output. Although it will reach the repeaters that are a few miles a way with not issues. So I may have a handheld radio addiction and probably have 30 HT’s. This one is as versatile as the RT-730 but a bit smaller. As with any hand held radio, the antenna is functional, but I will be replacing it with one that I prefer. All in all, I thing this radio is a decent radio for the price.

Easy to use and happy with TX and RX.
This is a good radio for beginners. From the time I opened it to testing it was five minutes. Within the first four minutes I was able to get it programmed in chirp. I easily cut and paste from a different radio to this one not the same company and all my channels switched over. I did replace the antenna with a gmrs antenna. I could hit repeaters, with my ground plane antenna that was handmade, that are very far away 23 plus miles and 13 plus miles away.

Good Performance with a Small Learning Curve
The radio works well and receives signals reliably, even indoors. Battery life has been solid and meets my expectations. Switching and programming channels was a bit confusing at first, but after some tinkering I was able to figure it out. I primarily use it to listen to aircraft bands and weather, and it performs nicely for both.

Unlocked and does transmit at 10+ watts VHF
Bought this as a warehouse deal and was well worth it. Larger capacity battery, IP68 rated
J. Cabarga –
OVERCOMPLICATED
EWRUENWD IT – DIFFICULT – NOT INTUITIVE OPERATION AT ALL

Button identification
Easy to program with the manufacturers software. The lock button doesn’t have a lock symbol, but this hasn’t been an issue for me.

Thompson Twins designed radio because it’s all Lies, Lies, Lies, yeah!
Bought the 630 because of the supposed wideband receive, but unfortunately, it seems to be all lies, lies, lies.Tried multiple strong frequencies in the 39, 42, 44, and 800mhz range and couldn’t hear anything with multiple antennas. Even with the squelch turned to 0, nothing was ever heard. These freqs are loud and clear with a scanner with a stubby antenna, but on the 630 – nothing. This was in both VFO and programmed mode, and tried changing squelch, narrow/wide mode, everything. For channels it can hear in the VHF and UHF-T bands, the squelch tail was so long and loud that the radio is just unusable. God forbid you have an ear piece in!On Airband, it worked ok, but then I’m just outside the runway so your mileage may vary on that.So it’s going back in the box and back to radtel after a day of use.
Todd’s RADIO REVIEWS –
RADTEL RT 630 GREAT SMALL RADIO.
NICE RADIO THE ONLY PROBLEM IS IT SAYS 10 WATT AND MINE PUTS OUT 7. I FEEL IF YOU BUY A 10 WATT RADIO FOR HAM TO REACH A REPEATER THEN IT SHOULD BE 10 OR 9.5 WATTS. BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS A GREAT RADIO I GET GOOD REPORTS FROM IT NICE AND CLEAR. PROGRAMMING IS EASY TO GET USED TO PROGRAMMING IT. I THINK ITS A GOOD BUY AND WHAT YOU GET FOR THE MONEY IS A GOODM PRICE.

Really nice and sturdy radio, transmit power actually seems to be as advertised when measured. A minor drawback for me is that the display is off when there’s no transmission or button presses, unlike the radios with simpler LCD-displays. This is the price to pay to have a full colour LCD-display, I guess. (Granted, it can be adjusted to be on all the time, but I reckon that will heavily affect battery usage.)Easily programmed with CHIRP, the supplied antenna seems decent, no need for me to swap it out with a Nagoya of same size, like with other radios I have had. And the belt clip works really well. All in all the best, reasonably priced waterproof radio I have owned.
