Not a bad lil radio
I don’t typically buy entry level radios. That said, there are times when I’d rather not trash a 300$ walkie-talkie either in the event of an oopsie. So I decided to take a try on the radtel. Mostly out of curiosity, as it has a combination of features that I can’t find in any one handset and in my price range from Japan: usb-c charging, mobile app programming, on/off memory ch scanning from the keypad, and a KNOB for vfo/mr.Wow 😲 With that combination of features? It have to be an absolute dog for the tcvr to be unacceptable. It’s not either of those things.I won’t go into a lengthy dissertation of the strengths and weaknesses of its design. I understand its limitations and it’s been selected to fill a role that it compliments adequately. I have little interest in whether the power output is 8 watts or not, as I’d not use a HT for anything but line of sight and light repeater voice calls. The programming for some reason was a tad tricky but overall the GUI is intuitive to use. I could have been having a “special” moment during the first attempt 😉IMHO, the RT-990 has many top tier features for it’s reasonable price. That it’s easy to use and permits quick setting changes is icing on a cake. I’m glad I discovered it and would likely buy another, if needed.If I had to pick a nit? The ht sound overall is a bit thin, even for this class of transceiver, and it’s not adequate in volume to use in high noise environments.

Awesome little radio
At first I wasn’t sure I was gonna like it, but it has become one of my go to radios. I have about 21 handhelds, out of my analog radios, this Radtel is in my top 2 radios. I do like the app programming. The drawback is, you do one channel at a time and if you want to import a whole bunch, you would want to use chirp so you could potentially copy and paste. But all in all, the app works well and the radio is well built and signal reports say its working fine.

Returned RT900 BT after testing. Poor experience compared to ease of using/updating other Brands.
Returned the next day. Radio had a mind of its own. Programmed side button functions but they would revert to factory settings. The Radio displayed Scramble TX mode even with Scramble set to OFF and TXed in Scramble mode! Once corrected, RX audio did not sound close to being right. The Firmware updates (multiples) would not extract in a working state to allow an upload to the radio. Some menu function titles are different in the App vs both the keypad menu/ paper document. This allows the app’s 3 tab pages to become much more frustrating in learning/troubleshooting issues. A simple addition of a reference number that matches the App to the radio’s menu would solve major frustration for a new owner. Surprised my radio arrived with Firmware V1.06 and not the upgraded FW/features. So, I was hoping that updating the FW would help with the bugs I was finding/get the full channel slots/help audio… but I just gave up after hours of attempts to work things out. I really wanted this radio but I lost confidence in this one.

Compact HAM radio
The blue tooth is a nice feature for programming the radio. Easy to use app, once you figure out how to turn on the blue tooth on the radio. The manual is not that great. It’s enough to get you through all the settings. The upper two buttons both left and right are dual purpose. It took me a long time to figure this out. To get into the menu, you have to press the bottom of the OK key and not the top. The top is for switching from frequency to channel mode (same button as the OK).Some things to consider. The volume knob is hard to move and right next to the center 16 channel switching knob. The backlit keys and screen only stay on for about 5 sec when transmitting or receiving. The belt clip attaches to the battery and not to the radio. Highest frequency is 519.9875. The one big thing I like is, the battery lasts for 48++ hours on stand by. It gets charged by a type C usb on the bottom of the battery. It uses a standard “Kenwood” plug for a remote mic and speaker. On par with a B@ofeng UV-5G PLUS or UV-5RM and also uses the same antenna.

Very impressed with this compact radio
First this RT-900 radio is very compact solid hi-quality in look and feel in my hand and when compare to other radios, im talking about $35 radio vs $210 radio in all features, functions, performances, abilities, power and range. In “super mode” it can do 2m, 6m, 220, 70cm, murs, gmrs and air band… About range and far it all compare to all expensive radios out there, with 8w more than enough for any performance. I like the channel selector nob, it’s super handy and makes life much enjoyable, just this feature alone make it way better than other already. And so far it’s is one of the best radio in my collection. Out.

Buggy with Chirp Programming, great display and VFO knob
The radio can be programmed with chirp but it’s a beta driver. It has some bugs, like am mode. You can accidentally force the radio into am receive on all the channels. Also the sensitivity is less than the Tidradio using the same antenna. On the positive side it has a nice display with frequency Chan number and Chan name all displayed at once for both A and B. It feels solid,, and having a selector knob is great.

Radio crashes on full power output on VHF frequencies by overdrawing the internal battery triggering a reboot. Battery did not charge with usb c. Returning for a refund.

C’est une bonne radio qui capte toute fréquente aviation c’est parfait pour le spotting je trouve aussi la porté incroyable de chez moi je capte lyon st exupery ( je suis a 42 km de l’aeroport et je capte tout les fréquences correctement)

Excellent reception in LF and MF even indoors and urban areas. Software more user friendly than RT-890. Solid built. BT enabled to pair with phone or tablet and setup of the channels in a convenient and fast way , without a computer. You can do it on the go.The stock antenna is good being a a stock antenna . Once again better than the stock antenna bundled with RT-860 and RT-890.Practical handheld HAM. For beginner and no high stake scenarios.
