It’s very rare for me to rate an en-route item, but!
Because I have so much faith and history with Jeppessen and Sporty’s Pilot Shop I have no problem giving them and this product 5 stars. It’s certain that if anything is wrong with it Sporty’s or Jeppessen will make it right they have invoked that much confidence in me over the 35+ years I have been a customer. Matter of fact this is my 4th E6B calculator, not because they break, but because the airplane did. Or something went horribly wrong with what was supposed to be faultless engineering, and after the hard landing you leave your stuff behind, and promptly exit the aircraft! No these things are not water proof or fire resistant so they get the end result of. Oh s*** we stopped and nobody is bleeding! But the airplane is a mess at the end of the hello highway! Time to go immediately! To be fair I lost one on loan to a friend, and another to a student who really earned it by scoring 100 on the private pilots written exam. They are durable, dependable, and much simpler to use when compared to the manual circular analog old school E6B. However when training a new pilot they must master the old school methods before I will let them use this. This then becomes primary and the old school version is backup. So the only way this can get screwed up is if FedEx forgets where they parked the airplane, or Boeing left something out of it! Beyond that it’s a no brainier!

A great starting electronic E6B, but mine came with some damage on the screen.
I personally love this flight computer. I’ve been using it for over three years at this point. Mine did, however, come with some small scratches on the screen. It was cosmetic damage, so I didn’t bother returning it, and it hasn’t interfered with the functionality at all. That being said, ASA makes the CX-3, which is more expensive, but it has some nice features. Since this is going to be an investment that will last, it’s worth considering. There’s also app versions of E6Bs for a few dollars. The only downside to those is you can’t bring them into a written test with you. Really, what electronic E6B you choose comes down to what you want to spend, and what you want to get out of that money.

Check your testing center rules!
Just because this device is approved by the FAA, it does not mean you will be allowed to bring it to your testing center. Make sure to get clear written confirmation before you start relying on this device and bring a paper E6B as a backup just in case. PSI services in Dallas denied usage of this device because it is an electronic device. It is a great tool, don’t get me wrong! Makes calculations he’ll of a lot easier and if you ever think you’ll use it outside of an exam environment, go ahead and buy it. Just keep in mind that if you buy it months in advance like I did, you will not be eligible for a return when you walk into the test center and get told to leave it in the car.

Best friend
I recently started using a flight calculator for my flight planning, and I have to say, it has made a world of difference. The calculator is easy to use and has all of the essential features that I need for flight planning. It can calculate things like fuel consumption, flight time, and ground speed, which saves me a lot of time and effort in manual calculations. The calculator also takes into account things like winds aloft and temperature variations, which helps to ensure that my flight plan is as accurate as possible.

multi-line display
which allows users to view multiple calculations and their steps at once. This makes it easier to track complex problems, especially in engineering, scientific, and advanced math courses. The screen’s size and clarity enhance the user experience by making it simple to read even long equations.
