XLR Airbus versionThe new Airman 8 headset builds on the success of its predecessors with ultralight designs and strong stainless steel headbands that enhance durability for long-lasting headsets. The soft headband ear cushions provide added comfort, while an added yoke allows ear cup movement in all directions. An updated boom mic design provides more rotating stops, utilizing the full diameter of the ear cup. Other features include the new pre-coiled overhead cord that extends the life of the headphone band and the main cable that is more robust with a better relief design at the ear cup entry. Each headset comes with replaceable ear pads covers and leatherette ear cushions. These aviator headsets also feature high-quality amplified electret microphones for clear voice transmission. The Flyer 8 headset in particular features Enhanced ANR to further reduce noise, improve intelligibility and reduce fatigue. The ANR’s position switch has been moved to the forward-facing ear cup side, making it easier to reach the switch without having to remove the ear cup. Another unique feature of the Aviator 8 is that it is powered from its microphone system, eliminating the need for batteries or special connectors. This headset comes with leatherette ear cushions. This headset comes with a headset case.

    Performance without the hefty price-tag
Light, confortable and durable would be the highs of this headset. Not so spectacular on the noise cancelling department but gets the job done. The no batteries required is a plus in the long run.

    Best ANR headset without batteries
As expected, the ANR works brilliantly in the Airbus A-320 flight deck. The usual fatigue due noise is definitely reduced by around 50% average. Worth the price. Superb built quality, as expected out of any Telex product.

    poor microphone
Had them for a few days now and am somewhat disappointed. They’re comfortable enough and the ANR cuts a reasonable amount of noise in the A320 but the microphone is the issue. There’s almost no sidetone so I can’t hear my own voice and the microphone has to be touching my mouth otherwise ATC/other crew can’t hear me. If I cant remedy this by adjusting the mic gain via Telex support, they’ll be going back.

    Bad Connector Pin?
The headset seemed to work fine in ANR mode with a reasonable amount of noise canceling for an Airbus. Initially I was pleased, But after about an hour, the microphone seemed to stop working. I switched headsets in the middle of the flight with a supplied pair in the cockpit to finish the flight. I tried to test them when I got on the ground with the ground crew and they could hear me just fine, but I could not hear my transmission going out nor hear myself on inter-phone. Initially I could hear myself on inter-phone and going out on VHF, the sound dropped off completely in flight. On the ground, if I cranked up the inter-phone, I could barely hear myself through the headset but I could hear the other pilot and hear VHF chatter. I believe the connector pin was faulty. Sending them back after one use. I’ll try a replacement set and follow up to this post after I try the new set out.Update 1 week later: I purchased another headset from another seller and it appears to work fine. I think the issue on the first set was the connector pin. This replacement headset works as advertised. The ANR mode gives just a bit of noise reduction. Not even close to a Bose or a David Clark in comparison, but for the price it works just fine in the Airbus. They are light-weight and take up less room in the pro bag than the Bose or D.C. models. You’ll need to buy an adapter for the 2-pin plug-in aircraft.
